The MLB regular season ends tomorrow and as such so does the TMS summer internship program for 2009. I just wanted to thank our 3 interns for a job well done picking up the slack and writing for us because we're too lazy to do so. You truly are enablers of our underachieving sloth lifestyle.
Here are my favorite posts from each of the interns this summer.
Surrounded by Communists - In Defense of Child Labor. The "In Defense of..." series are probably the most difficult posts to tackle at TMS and SbC nailed this one perfectly. So much so I've been scouring the black market for some eager-bodied Guatemalan children to do the "Charlie-work" here at the saloon.
Ginger Russ - Overrated/Underrated: Mexican Restaurants, Part 1 & Part 2. Ginger Russ has followed TMS almost from the beginning and early on he tapped into what our readers like to squabble about the most, overrated/underrated stuff and food. Be sure to check out Ginger Russ over at his Cubs blog College of Idiots this offseason where he'll continue his Top Ten: Top Ten Plays feature.
Adam Blank - How to Get Laid in 12 Easy Steps. Our resident unemployed alcoholic has graced us with a spectacular melange of booze, B-movies, and obscure punk albums, but his true moment of acceptance at the Saloon came with this horrifically brilliant guide to getting laid. Adam's little niche of esoterica has found a permanent home here at TMS as he has accepted a full-time bartender position with us. So expect the reviews of shitty vodka and odd horror/kung fu movies to continue.
Again, thanks so much to all three of you. And to our readers, be sure to keep an eye out next Spring as we may be searching for interns again in 2010.

Thunder Matt's Saloon Summer Intern Program: Introducing the "Winners"
June 22, 2009 | Comments (0) | by Jake the Terrible Cubs Fan
Well after a long and grueling selection process we are proud to introduce the inaugural class of TMS Summer Interns.
These three gentlemen will be at the Saloon for the remainder of the baseball season doing all the menial chores that the established bartenders no longer care to do. Stuff like cleaning the toilets, fetching Chaim's tuxedo pants from the dry cleaners, rolling Tommy Buzanis to his side when he passes out on the floor every Tuesday, oh and of course, writing blog posts.
So without further ado, here are the new interns
GINGER RUSS
Real name: Russell
Ginger Russ is from Northern Illinois originally but now lives in the desert of Arizona, despite the obvious danger of fair-skinned gingers bursting into flames. G.R. may also be TMS's first confirmed fanatic. So much so he created his own Cubs blog called College of Idiots in an attempt to be like us. In his free time, G.R. enjoys drinking vodka in the shade.
SURROUNDED BY COMMUNISTS
Real name: Zach
SbC hails from Louisville, Kentucky and is by far the youngest person to ever put on the TMS uniform (modeled here by The Hundley, the hat is optional). The name Surround by Communists is in obvious reference to there being a shitload of Reds fans where he resides, that and he's chapter president of the local Young Communists League.
ADAM BLANK
Real name: Adam
Adam lives in LA and is an accomplished drinker. When not in an alcohol-induced haze he spends his time watching obscure horror films and attempting to legitimize his college degree in English Literature as he goes from temp job to temp job.
Let's give these guys a hearty TMS welcome, which of course means mock and ridicule them in order to mask our own personal insecurities and shortcomings.

Bartender Banter: Last Call for Interns
May 27, 2009 | Comments (0) | by Jake the Terrible Cubs Fan
Last Friday I announced the TMS Summer Intern project. So far I've received 5 quality applicants, and I'm satisfied enough to close the application process tomorrow. So this is your last call. Send us an email expressing your interest to be considered for the TMS internship by noon central tomorrow. Our email is thundermatts[at]gmail.com. Please note that it's 'thundermatts' and not 'thundermatt'.
So quite the game today huh? Cubs win, the ump tosses Z, Z tosses the ump, Neal Cotts is released into the wild, new callups Jake Fox and Andy White immediately make an impact, Ryan Freel gets hurt like clockwork. Anything I missed?

Thunder Matt's Saloon Summer Intern Program: Taking Applications now
May 22, 2009 | Comments (0) | by Jake the Terrible Cubs Fan
The other day Chaim mentioned in his post that anyone interested in writing for Thunder Matt's Saloon should drop us an email inquiring about it.Today I'd like to officially announce we are in fact taking applications for the TMS Summer Intern Program.
We're looking for 1 or 2 motivated bloggers that would like to come aboard and begin writing for an "established" Cubs blog.
- Have you ever wanted to write for a blog but haven't found the time or know-how to get up and running?
- Have you in the past, or currently wrote your own personal blog but have become discouraged by the lack of traffic/notice your work is receiving, or have you burned out trying to single-handedly keep fresh content up?
Excited? Well you f'n should be! Let's go over some of the rules and criteria for the Intern program.
- This is not a paid internship, in fact we'll probably try to bum money off of you.
- You cannot receive college credit for this, although Tommy Buzanis still has his part-time gig teaching 'home gun repair' at night school, but that's neither here nor there.
- Must be 21 years of age to be considered.
- Must have a good sense of humor and not be easily offended or insulted.
- Must be a fan of the Chicago Cubs.
- Must have a solid base of pop culture knowledge in some capacity (i.e. music, movies, books, televison, comic books, s&m pornography, etc.).
- Must be committed to writing at least 1 blog post a week minimum.
- Internship will go from June until the end of the Cubs season.
- Once internship is complete the possibility for a full-time gig at TMS will be determined.
- Must have a Gmail account.
- Must possess competent writing skills.
- Must be able to drink Pabst Blue Ribbon without complaint or remorse for your liver and colon.
- Accepted interns will receive an official Thunder Matt's Saloon Intern t-shirt*.
*shirt may be substituted with a glass of scotch or some other various item of our choosing.
